Do NOT ignore this one skill if you want to become a Cybersecurity Content Creator
Do not neglect this skill if you are serious about creating Cybersecurity Content.
“Hey Taimur, I like your YouTube Videos and Udemy Courses... What Equipment Do I Need to Purchase To Start Making Stuff Like This ?”
I get asked this question a lot on LinkedIn and other media
While it is humbling that people think my stuff is worth watching .. this question always makes me cringe
Why?
It makes me remember the biggest mistake I made when starting out a few years back
In 2022... I started making content around Cybersecurity, and I was sure my courses were going to become instant best-sellers
Early retirement was guaranteed !
However.. it did not happen, and both my YouTube Videos and Udemy Courses flopped into the black void of the Internet.
It took several years for me to correct this mistake
Once I fixed it… I saw an immediate boost on platforms and an increase in my social media following
It even got me the LinkedIn Top Voice Badge !
The mistake I fixed was... not developing my writing skills
I don't blame people for thinking that the secret to cybersecurity content is some fancy equipment or tool.
Writing is not nearly as exciting as, say, creating a YouTube channel, a digital course, or launching a coaching program.
And yet .. it is the foundation for almost every other content creation channel you can think of.
Most people new to content creation jump directly into digital courses or YouTube without first creating a solid foundation in writing and then fail because of it.
Why Writing Is Important
Here are a few good reasons why writing sets the foundation for your other content creation efforts.
LinkedIn Posts
Copy-pasting stuff from ChatGPT will not get you anywhere if you want to establish yourself as a thought leader on LinkedIn or get that Top Voice badge
You need to effectively convey your ideas so that people actually stop scrolling and read your posts and for that good copywriting is key.
YouTube Videos
Your YouTube channel around Cybersecurity will not be successful if you cannot convey ideas and write a good “script” to hook the audience; otherwise, they will drop off after a few minutes.
It does not matter how attractive your editing is or how many B-rolls you put in.
Udemy Courses
Digital courses require you to convey ideas in a simple, easy-to-understand manner and, again, require a well-written outline to convey those ideas.
If you are not able to communicate concepts in a way your audience can understand then your courses will not sell
EBooks
Want to create an E-Book to sell on GumRoad?
If you cannot write an 800-word article, then believe me that you will not have the discipline to write a 5,000-word E-Book also
What I Learnt
I started learning how to write effectively and the principles around good copywriting.
I even took on a few freelancing gigs on Fiverr to get feedback about how good my writing was
This directly led to improvements in my other content-creating efforts
Writing unlocks a creative part of your brain which feeds into your other works.
As you write for an audience, you will find yourself stretched to your creative limits as you think of new and compelling ways of telling a story and hooking the reader.
You will also find yourself researching and learning about particular niches to widen your knowledge base and audience.
Finding an interesting cybersecurity idea and then writing about it is one of the biggest creative “highs” you can achieve
Get Started
I hope this motivates you to move beyond that blank screen and start typing away.
The key point I would remind you to keep in mind would be:
Just Start ️ .. it has never been easier to start writing on the Internet, so jump on platforms like Substack, Medium or LinkedIn. They already have a built-in reader base ready to give you feedback and let you know what is working and what is not
Ignore Critics. You will find no end of naysayers telling you that your work sucks and that writing is useless. Please shut these people out and get to work. The world has enough negativity, with more people adding to it.
Writing is like working out. Like going to the gym, you will get stronger the more you keep at it. You will look back at stuff you wrote six months ago and be amazed at how much your writing has improved.
Writing will help your other content. Online writing will force you to express your ideas in a way that others can understand and set the foundation for your other content.
Good luck with the awesome writing career ahead of you!
